A design inspiration comes from discarded tools, such as those found in the neighbor’s garage. This is why the handle of the Chehalem is influenced by antique hammerheads. While this knife’s blade is utilitarian, the handle is meant to be treasured.
When Eric Ochs was a kid, he lived on Bald Peak, which was the highest peak in the Chehalem Mountains in Oregon. He used to go hunting with his grandfather for old hammers. The handles of these tools had a weathered and textured look that was inspired by the Chehalem Mountains’ design.
The sleek clip point blade of the Chehalem is designed to balance the antique look of the knife while providing a fine point for cutting. Its thumb hole and frame lock are also features that make this knife ideal for modern applications.
