The Flight’s hollow-ground blade is made using 8Cr13MoV steel, which is similar to the AUS-8. This material features both vanadium and molybdenum, which give it a more robust and durable feel.
This recipe involves adding carbon to the steel’s composition to enhance its abrasion and wear resistance. As a result, the blade steel retains its sharp cutting edge even after being used. Most byrds come in combination or plain designs.
The famous byrd line’s opening hole is a signature feature that’s characterized by its high-quality materials and workmanship. Its ergonomic handles provide a comfortable and fatigue-free cutting experience.
A portion of the lock release can be ground away for added safety. This feature was developed by David Boye, who is a custom knifemaker. It eliminates the possibility of accidentally releasing the lock while gripping the knife too tightly. All byrds come with a pocket clip that can be used to clip the knife inside a pocket.
